Naomi Campbell was banned from British Airways after the raucous that occurred at Heathrow Airport last week. She allegedly attacked their staff verbally for having misplaced one her bags and spit on an officer’s face.

This is not the first time Campbell has had problems with the law. Now she faces the possibility of being in jail up to six months if convicted for assaulting a police officer.

Her spokeswoman, Annabel Fox, hoped for the best. “Naomi has been flying with British Airways for nearly 30 years and has been a good customer,” she said, according to Reuters. “She hopes this can be resolved amicably.”

Amicably? Puhlease!! After Campbell’s long history of violent behavior and everyone around her giving in to her hissy fits, the last thing Ms. Fox should be asking for is for the issue to be resolved “amicably.” She should perhaps help get Campbell some medical attention because obviously she has some anger management issues (seriously, snapping at people like that for a lost bag? With the amount of money she has, she could easily buy herself some more clothing).

It appears to me, that after a long history of behavioral problems that arise from the same issue (i.e. clothing, not getting her way, etc.), Ms. Fox does not know how to handle Campbell’s behavior any longer. Sure, the new Terminal 5 has had some problems (missing bags, lack of communication etc.) but Campbell had no right to attack the staff. In the video, Ms. Fox hinted at the fact that it was BA’s fault for not disclosing any information about the last bag but she has to understand that many people are having to deal with the headache of loosing their luggage. I’ll give her some credit, coming out and immediately answering a few of the questions that the press were concerned about (i.e. what happened? Why? etc.) was a smart thing but she could have given a little more detailed as to Campbell’s reaction and consequences of her behavior. Stating that what she said was the only information she could disclose is asking for the press to assume possible consequences. Not good for her client, the ultimate hissy-fit Diva. Yet again, her actions are not helping her reputation AT ALL.

Hockey is known for being an intense, combat-like sport and its players are pretty hardcore too. Tennis might as well be placed on their level, after Mikhail Youzhny decided to hit himself three times in the head to the point he started to bleed! What an idiot!! The incident occurred during an ATP Masters tennis match between Mikhail Youzhny and Nicolas Almagro. Youzhny got super angry after a close call and decided to start smashing his racket into his forehead.

On a positive note, this incident brought a whole lot more attention to the Sony Ericsson Open than expected. The video of the Russian “Crazy” tennis player soon became a web sensation! Good publicity or bad publicity? I personally think it definitely got his name out to those that didn’t know who he was (because I had no idea who this guy was until now) but he came across as an idiot. At least Mikhail can pursue a career in professional hockey or maybe UFC if he ever gets bored with tennis.

But I wonder if his conduct would be perceived as unsportman like conduct by the U.S. Tennis Association and require some type of fine. Although, I must say, his passion for the sport is admirable. I’m an athlete myself and sometimes I become super competitive and tend to get upset when I begin to loose but to hit myself? Ummmm thats just a little to much. But man, is that racket strong! I wouldn’t doubt some type of commercial coming out of this. “Buy this racket … look at its durability (clip of Mikhail hitting himself) … look at its result (clip of Mikhail winning the match after hitting himself). Buy me!” Haha.

Unfortunately for him, beating himself did not help him in the next round (he lost to Janko Tipsarevic fourth round).

So Paris Hilton was a judge for the Miss Turkey competition. Really? Wow. I thought some experience in judging pageants was required (I guess she gets plenty of experience judging others for their fashion). But that’s not all! She also showed us what a terrible dancer she is. Hahaha!!

Paris accepted to perform on stage from Asena, awell-known local belly dancer, at the Miss Turkey beauty pageant. The ‘Simple Life’ star was unable to master the hip-shaking dance but managed to add her own flair by doing some sort of arm waving, spinning move.

Poor thing. It was like being at a bar while your sober and watching all the drunken people try to dance.

And people wonder why the phrase “white people can’t dance” came about.

In searching the Internet for news articles on the matter, placing key words such as “Don Imus,” “Don Imus scandal” and “Don Imus Rutgers,” top results consisted of unfavorable coverage towards Imus. Headlines consisted of “Advertisers Pull Out of Imus Show,” “CBS Fires Don Imus Over Racial Slur,” “Rutgers Team Wants Personal Apology” and “Imus Suspended from radio, TV.” Other headlines that conveyed a positive outlook on his actions consisted of “Don Imus Apology” and “Imus Signs Deal with Citadel to Return to Radio.” Overall, the media portrayed Imus in a negative context with coverage emphasizing on his comments being inconceivable “racial slur[s]” done by a man who was once named as Time magazine’s Most Influential People in America.

Due to the increased media coverage the radio-talk show host created with his “racial” comments, many prominent leaders (as stated before) rose to take a stand against Imus. People ranged from Sen. Barack Obama to rap artist 50 Cent. The majority of the articles criticized him and often painted a picture of Imus as a bigot or as a racist man and despite his apology the media portrayed him and his show in a negative context.

From the various articles that were noted in this blog, the accompanying photographs were straightforward and framed him as the way he depicts himself: as a radio shock jock who wears a cowboy hat and insults people.

Contrasting the mass media’s negative coverage of Imus’ remarks, bloggers like Hughes for America, presented viewpoints that defended Imus’ actions in accordance with Freedom of Speech. Others compared his comments to explicit rap lyrics, discussed the role of women in society, commented on the publicity women’s basketball was receiving, race, and the definition of “nappy headed.” Unlike the mass media who depicted Imus’ remarks as merely racist, bloggers opted for an open discussion of the situation. The majority of blogs discussed whether or not Imus should be protected under the First Amendment and whether Imus’ remarks should be compared to explicit rap lyrics. Overall, the majority agreed that his remarks were unacceptable and demeaning.

Don Imus is known for being a blunt and arrogant radio personality. Thats what he does. Goes off on rants and dismantles people on air (for the most part) but for him to say what he said was way out of line. Apologizing on his show, before being suspended for two-weeks, was a great way to reach his current audience and those that were probably listening since the scandal had risen. Don Imus even appeared on civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton’s radio show to apologize but that was not enough. Racial comments are ultimately unacceptable if you do not belong to the race you speak of. I feel that his attempts to show how sorry he was for his statements were the best thing he could have done. Donating money, playing the civil rights card or anything else other than a sincere apology would have appeared fake and insincere. In this case, an apology was the only thing he could really have done. The rest was left up to the people. They could accept or reject his apology.

—————————————————————————————————————–

After more than ten years of playing against the franchise where he first got his foot on an NBA court, Jason Kidd returned to the Dallas Mavericks.I would have to say, smooth move Mark Cuban! Jason Kidd is an awesome player! He’s running, passing, dodging, screening – catch my breath – oh my! With that kind of action, Kidd can put on a show no matter what team he plays for but his return to the Mavericks couldn’t have been a better choice. Nets fans are probably a little disappointed but the trade shouldn’t harm Kidd’s NBA career.Welcomed with a standing ovation, Kidd is back on the team that gave him a chance in the NBA in 1994 and now has the opportunity to claim the title of making the Mavericks a better passing team (believe me they need this!). Others, like Eddie Sefko, say the trade will not help the Mavericks win a championship, but it will help fill some seats. His fans will follow his game (maybe not his team if they are legit Nets fans) and after going to two consecutive NBA finals, Kidd might actually go all the way this time. Nothing wrong with that. Fair trade.

For today’s celebrities, being a size zero is everything. Young women like Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Mary-Kate Olsen all have had problems dealing with an eating disorder and it has not been “hush-hush” news, but splattered all over the front pages and top headline news. Singer, Lily Allen has now fallen into the pits of the “sad-anorexic-stressed-stick-thin” celebrity category and is no longer all Smile, or at least that’s what many assume.

Lily has always been an advocate of taking pride in your body no matter what your weight is. She was even quoted as saying, “”Look, I am not an advocate for the unhealthy anorexic look either, but I do believe that when you feel good with AND within your body (NO MATTER YOUR WEIGHT), the rest comes.” But could that have been a way to cover up her self-insecurity? By dogging others about trying to be thin?

Now, Miss Allen is slim and sexy after shedding 19 lbs! With recent evidence of her drastic weight loss and her MySpace blog (speaks about her unhappiness with her body image), many doubt that her weight loss is due to her doctor’s recommendation (Miss Allen’s recently diagnosed heart murmur) to get fit.

Whether her weight loss is due to actual health concerns or self-image problems, when she spoke about her feelings about her body image, she was just being human. Everyone, at some point in time, questions his or her body, especially when the entertainment industry stresses that being thin is a must. Miss Allen’s blog was simply just a way for her to vent about the stress of being on tour and of constantly being criticized by others over her weight. Sure, it has left many fans a little worried about their celeb, but when is trying to be healthy an issue?

I have never been against women losing weight or being on a diet, for we live in a fat-America, but only if they do it for the right reason: to be healthy. Miss Allen, despite her previous outspokenness about loving food and her body no matter what, she is finally speaking out about an actual problem: obesity. Sarah Bailey, journalist for Bazaar.com quoted Miss Allen on the issue: “Lily’s thoughts on distorted body image and the culpability of the media are far more sophisticated than you might suspect: ‘As much as we worry about the size 0 problem, we have to worry about the obesity problem. People get so depressed at not achieving what they are sold as the idea of perfection; they just eat themselves into oblivion. It’s really sad.’”

She doesn’t have an eating disorder (at least we hope so) and has revealed information about how she lost so much weight: exercise!! She hits the weight room about three times a week and eats healthy. Sure, she has spoken out about her insecurities before, but who can blame her when she is constantly in the spotlight (Miss Allen showed off her new look with a hot photo shoot and taking the cover of British GQ Magazine for the January 2008 issue). We should not look down at her for loosing weight despite her past claims, but think about the actual health problem that she is bringing to the spotlight: obesity, and what we as a society can do to improve ourselves.

Reading many of her blog’s comments, about “[she’s] the reason why women kill themselves to look like a picture perfect image in a guy’s mind,” is also a concern. I previously spoke about those celebrities who have admitted to their eating disorders (there are many, many more than those mentioned), but should their mishaps be the rain cloud over Miss Allen’s self-realization about her health? Good for you, Miss Allen! Being healthy should be your concern and do not worry about those who judge (they might have some self-image concerns themselves). Her music has not changed. She is still the fresh, quirky, outspoken, British singer that we first met when she rushed the music scene. Whether she eats unhealthy and gain weight, or eat healthy and loose weight, it’s a damn if you do or be damned if you don’t situation.

Looking for an interesting story to discuss on here, I ran into many discussions about Hollywood’s “It” girl: Jessica Alba.

Not for her recent pregnancy news or of her engagement to long-time boyfriend, Cash Warren, but because of her quotes denying her Latina roots.

In an interview with US Weekly, Jessica was quoted as saying: “Alba is my last name and I’m proud of that. But that’s it. My grandparents were born in California, the same as my parents, and though I may be proud of my last name, I’m American. Throughout my whole life, I’ve never felt connected to one particular race or heritage, nor did I feel accepted by any. If you break it down, I’m less Latina than Cameron Diaz, whose father is Cuban. But people don’t call her Latina because she’s blonde.”

Being a young, female of Mexican descent, I am proud to claim my ethnicity and understand that it comes with many stereotypes. As Jessica states ” “I’ve got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out” (thats just one of them). But since she is, despite not wanting to be, a Latina it would benefit her to leave the question of her heritage out of her professional life, especially since the Latino community is a a growing market for the entertainment industry.

She has gotten a lot of negative publicity for her comments and considering she is a talented actress and liked among the general public, this will definitely need some damage control.

Now, she will be on the cover of Latina Magazine on the March 2008 issue which will hit newsstands on February 19th. Not so sure how i feel about this.

After saying that she does not claim her Mexican roots, she is trying to clean up after her mistake by showing her face on a Latina magazine!! Hypocrit much? By doing that, its just placing her in an even awkward situation. Her credibility as a Latina was put in question and she failed miserably. Her male Latino fan base will more than likely remain the same…come on shes hott. But for her female fan base, can’t say the same.

American. I understand. A term referred to a someone of mix heritages. At least thats how Jessica justified it: “When are they going to get a clue that I am American, that this is what America looks like – people like me who are mixed, have different blood, mixed with different ethnicities?” Yet, Spanish media outlets are taking advantage of her remarks and spreading the word!! You know us Latinos, we spread like crazy!

Watch out Jessica! Your career might hit a deep slope! Time for some clean up. Either just accept that you are Latina, or be prepared for some more negativity from the Latino community.

I’m Out.

In today’s celeb-world, everyone wants to know everything about their favorite celebrities. People feel that they own these stars and pursue their everyday life outside their showbiz character. Why is that? Its because of the continuous cycle of media attention that these stars are given by the paparazzi and reality TV shows. Some shows, like A Shot at Love, definitely put Tila “Tequila” on the map, and Falva Flav’s career finally spiked after being out of the spotlight for a few years with his show Flavor of Love. These shows are clearly for entertainment and for those hopeless romantics hoping that their celebrity will find “true love.” But now a different type of show is taking a hold of this reality frenzy. Take a look at Celeb Rehab with Dr. Drew on VH1. This deals with old celebrities who have blown their careers with scandolous news to recently screwed up celebrities who have done the same. All-in-all they are all in there for the same reason: to seek help in facing their addictions. Others might say that this is just another way to try to get themselves back on the spotlight, but substance abuse is a huge issue that needs to be addressed.

Now, is this a good idea for these celebrities and their fans? Of course it is! Drug addiction is a terrible growing problem among young people which is one of the highest fan base demographics among these young celebrities. Placing these celebrities on TV and showing their fans what they are battling with might help others face their own fears. This shows that these celebrities are real people with real problems. With recent events such as Heathledger’s and Anna Nicole Smith’s death (you can be the judge if she was a celebrity), many celebrities have chosen to check-in to rehab, such as Kirsten Dunst, Eva Mendes and Lindsay Lohan. These are celebrities that young people adore!
